The problem

Security today is reactive and noisy.

Traditional alarms cry wolf. Cameras record footage nobody watches. Officers drive out to nothing while real moments slip by — and communities are left managing the fallout.

False alarms everywhere

Up to 98% of activations are false — tying up patrol time and attention on incidents that never happened.

Footage nobody watches

Cameras everywhere, but when something happens it takes hours of scrubbing to find the clip — if it’s found at all.

Always one step behind

Help arrives after the fact — and when residents ask what was being done, there’s rarely a clear answer on paper.

How it works

Detect. Assess. Hand off.

Evidence-rich assessments — calm when it’s nothing, fast when it’s real.

STEP 01

Detect

Wired and wireless cameras watch every threshold of the community, around the clock.

STEP 02

Assess

Toran assesses each event and filters out the routine — producing an Event Assessment with the clip and context, so a swaying branch is far less likely to become a 2 a.m. call.

STEP 03

Hand off

Each Event Assessment is handed to our UL-listed central station partner, who performs the verification of record and coordinates escalation and dispatch.

Risk management

More than cameras: risk management for the community.

Cameras record. Toran does the part that comes after: it assesses what matters, keeps the noise away from your people, and holds a continuous record of what the community knew and what was done about it. When something happens, the question is rarely “was there a camera?” — it’s “what did you know, and what did you do?”

Less noise reaching people

Routine activity is filtered before anyone is contacted — so attention, patrols and after-hours calls go to the events that actually warrant them.

Every event documented

Each assessment is kept with its clip, context and timestamp — a continuous record of what the system saw and how it was handled.

Findings on the record

Issues are raised with a priority and stay open until they’re addressed, so there’s a written trail of what was flagged and when.

Written for the board

A weekly summary in plain language — what happened, what changed, and what still needs a decision at the next meeting.

Evidence when it’s needed

Export timestamped clips and event history for police, insurers or your own counsel — on your terms, when you choose.

Where this leads — fewer unnecessary call-outs, less time spent chasing nothing, a community that can show its work — depends on the community, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Toran documents; it doesn’t advise. We’re not a law firm and nothing here is legal advice, but a clear, timestamped record is something a board, a manager and their counsel can all work from.

The platform

Meet Toran.

Think of it as an operating system for your community’s security — cameras, events, evidence and reporting in one place. Toran watches the feeds so no one has to, flags what looks real, and turns footage into evidence-rich Event Assessments. It runs in the browser — no software to install.

Assessment, not noise

Computer vision plus reasoning flags likely-real events and sets the routine ones aside.

Ask anything

“What happened last night?” Toran answers in plain language, with the clips attached.

Board-ready reporting

A weekly summary of what happened across your community — written for a board meeting, not a technician.

Resilience

Built to stay on.

No two communities are wired the same. We design each site as a mix: wired cameras where power and network already reach, and wireless units running on solar and battery with their own cellular link for gates, perimeters and places cable can’t go. Cut the power, drop the WiFi, or take out a few cameras — the rest of the network keeps watching.

Fast investigation

Hours of footage → minutes.

When something does happen, search by time, zone or event type — and export timestamped, evidence-rich clips for police or insurers.

Package theft

Find the clip quickly.

Car break-in

Every camera at that moment.

Vandalism

Trace the path across the property.

Evidence export

An evidence package, ready to share.

Why Toran

Protection, not surveillance.

Toran is privacy-first by design. Your footage is yours — it isn’t pooled into a law-enforcement network. You decide what’s shared, and with whom.

Traditional security
  • Constant false alarms & alert fatigue
  • No record of what was flagged or acted on
  • Depends on grid power & WiFi
  • Footage shared into outside databases
Toran
  • AI-assessed — noise filtered before it reaches you
  • Ask Toran — answers in minutes, on the record
  • Wired + wireless mix, tamper-resilient
  • Community-controlled & privacy-first
Solutions

Built for every kind of community.

One AI-assessment layer — tuned to how your community actually lives. From a single decision-maker to a portfolio of properties.

HOAs & gated communities

Cover entrances, perimeter and common areas. Assessed alerts replace guesswork — and a documented record replaces “we thought someone was handling it”.

Condos & townhomes

Protect shared lobbies, garages, mailrooms and amenities — with privacy that residents trust.

Apartment communities

Keep watch over package areas, entries and shared spaces across buildings, around the clock.

Property management companies

Standardize AI-assessed coverage across your whole portfolio, with one dashboard and per-community reporting.

Security & privacy

Your data. Your control.

Toran is privacy-first by design. We protect communities without turning them into a surveillance network — the footage belongs to you, not to a database somewhere else.

Encrypted, end to end

Video is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is role-based and logged — only the people you authorize can see it.

No outside database

Your footage isn’t pooled into a law-enforcement or third-party network. What leaves your community leaves only because you sent it.

You control sharing

Export an evidence clip for police or insurers when you choose. Nothing is shared automatically.

Retention on your terms

Set how long footage is kept. We retain only what your community decides to retain — no more.

Our name

A toran is the archway hung over a home’s entrance — an ancient symbol that the threshold is watched over, and that the people within are safe and welcome. We built Toran to keep that promise for whole communities: cameras at every threshold, and Toran, a system that assesses what’s real and filters out the noise.

Calm when it’s nothing. Fast when it’s real.

Pilot program · Applications

We’re at the start — and that’s the point.

Toran is an early-stage company. We’re accepting applications from a small number of Bay Area communities to join our first pilots — design partners who want to shape the product and get AI-assessed monitoring early.

  • Wired and wireless cameras installed at no upfront cost
  • Toran access & weekly safety reports
  • Success metrics agreed up front

FAQ

Straight answers.

How does Toran handle a real event?
Toran is an assessment layer. When Toran flags a likely-real event, it produces an Event Assessment — the clip, the context, and an AI assessment — and hands it to our UL-listed central station partner. The central station performs the verification of record and coordinates escalation and dispatch, so response sits with professionals who are accountable for it.
Who responds to an event?
A UL-listed central station does. Toran is software: we detect events, assess them, and hand evidence-rich Event Assessments to our central station partner. They verify the event and coordinate escalation and dispatch. Toran itself does not verify alarms or dispatch response — that authority, and the responsibility for it, sits with the licensed central station.
What does the pilot cost?
There’s no charge for selected pilot communities. We install cameras at no upfront cost and provide Toran access, Event Assessments and weekly reports. We agree success metrics with you up front, and there’s no long-term commitment.
How does this help our board?
Boards are asked to show that they acted reasonably on what they knew. Toran keeps that record automatically: every event assessed and timestamped, every finding raised with a priority, and a weekly summary written in plain language for the meeting. We document what happened and what was recommended — we don’t give legal advice, and nothing here substitutes for your own counsel.
Where do you operate?
We’re starting in Northern California (the Bay Area). If you’re outside the area, apply anyway and we’ll keep you posted as we expand.
Who can see my video?
Your footage is yours. Toran is privacy-first: video isn’t pooled into a law-enforcement network. You decide what’s shared, when, and with whom — including the evidence packages you choose to export.
Are the cameras wired or wireless?
It depends on the camera. We design each community as a mix: wired cameras where power and network already reach, and wireless units that run on solar and battery over their own cellular link — for gates, perimeters and spots where running cable isn’t practical. Because of that mix, a power cut or a WiFi outage doesn’t take the whole network down.
What is the Toran platform?
Toran is the platform your community runs on — cameras, events, reporting and evidence in one place. It uses computer vision and reasoning to flag likely-real events, set routine activity aside, and answer plain-language questions about your community with the clips attached. It runs in any modern browser. The verification of record sits with our UL-listed central station partner.
