Privacy Notice
Last updated: June 2026
This Privacy Notice explains how Toran Safety, Inc. (“Toran,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses, and shares information in connection with our community security service and this website. Because our service involves video cameras placed in residential communities, this notice covers both the personal information we handle as a business and the footage our cameras capture.
1. Information we collect
Video footage
Our cameras capture video of the areas a community asks us to monitor — typically shared spaces such as entrances, driveways, parking areas, and common areas. This footage may include images of people, vehicles, and license plates.
Audio
Our cameras are configured for video-based detection. We do not enable audio recording by default. Where a community chooses to enable any audio feature, it is the community’s responsibility to provide all notices and obtain any consents required by law, including California’s all-party consent requirements for recording confidential communications.
Account & contact information
When a community, board member, property manager, or partner signs up or contacts us, we collect information such as name, email, phone number, role, and community details.
Website & technical data
When you use this website, we may collect limited technical data such as IP address, device and browser type, and pages viewed, through standard logging and cookies.
2. How we use information
- To detect and verify genuine security events and filter out false alarms (our LIRA service).
- To deliver alerts, verified clips, and the Weekly Safety Brief to the contacts a community designates.
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve our cameras, software, and AI models.
- To communicate with communities and partners about service, support, and pilots.
- To comply with legal obligations and to respond to valid legal requests.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pool community footage into any law-enforcement or third-party surveillance network. A community controls what is shared, when, and with whom, including any evidence packages it chooses to export.
We share information only with: (a) service providers who help us operate the service (for example, cloud hosting), under contract and only as needed; (b) the community and the contacts it designates; and (c) authorities when required by law or with the community’s direction.
4. Data retention
Footage and event data are retained for a limited period agreed with each community and then deleted or archived according to that schedule. Account and contact information is retained for as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations.
5. Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, and we continue to strengthen our practices as we grow.
6. Surveillance notice
Communities are responsible for posting clear, visible notice that an area is under video surveillance, where required by law, so residents and visitors are informed.
7. Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), gives you certain rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to know what personal information we collect, use, and share.
- Right to delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Toran does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
- Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@toransafety.com. We will verify your request and respond as required by law. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf.
8. Children
Our service is directed to communities and property managers, not to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children for marketing purposes.
9. Changes to this notice
We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. The most current version will always be posted here with the “Last updated” date above.
